Overwatch: Initial Impressions

Yes! I am back! Well… kind of. I am trying to get back into the swing of things again – luckily I have a husband who is HEAVILY encouraging me to do so. So we both tried to figure out something that would hopefully hook me in and get me back into the righteous place I need to be in.

And let me say, it feels good to be back.

But that is probably not why you are here! You want to hear about what I think about a certain game and what I think of it.

Or you are one of those who click on anything Overwatch. Either way, let’s get down to it!

I swear I have been living under a rock when it comes to games lately these days, but EVEN I have heard of Overwatch. It crosses over into many of the social aspects/media that it is almost a must to try to get back into gaming. You don’t play? You probably at least give it a try.

Did you know that there seems to not be a SINGLE USED XBOX ONE COPY of this game at any of the Gamestops I visited? That’s right. You read it. GameStopSSSSSS. I visited multiple in my area. None. No one had a used Xbox One copy. Though I did stumble across a PS4 version – but seeing as my husband and friends are more likely to play on the xBox, I decided against. I mean, it seems like all my friends who have a gaming console who actually play/play with others are xBox people. No complaints-

and completely different topic.

This speaks to not just the popularity, but also how much people are ENJOYING it and keeping them. I like the sounds of that.

So let’s get started, shall we?

First thing you do, of course, get in the game. There is this cute introduction done by Winston – a talking Ape. Talking about Overwatch and how we are needed to help save the world and stop the madness and what not. Now, I didn’t know there was actual story to this. And I think the story stops there. Because…. really….

Love the introduction though. He sounds brilliant but doubts himself in regards to speaking to other … er people?

Anyway – fun  characters and a good introduction.

Of course, there is a tutorial but they make it optional. Me, I’d rather do the tutorial and I am introduce to this character because this is who you use:

I will admit I mess up his name constantly. I keep saying “Agent. Agent 76”. You’ll have to forgive me.

They show you how to shoot robots with it, how to walk and look around. One of the most recognizable characters then also comes one so you can target her and follow her around so your new baby like steps get some practice.

She seems fun! Dude, she was dashing around and I kind of wanted to try her out. Haven’t yet but….

Anyways, perky. Helpful. And wicked fast. I approve.

Most of you already know all of this so I am going to skip forward to the part where I realize the most obvious things to other but weird to me because remember, I never played this game before, and I went in practically blind as to how any of this works.

Fast forward to first game (husband experiencing it with me by the way so I have another person dying and going “WHAT THE HECK JUST HAPPENED”) and I learned something real quick:

Bloody heck guys. For real? I was always a healing type of person in a group so I figured “Hey, no one chose healer, let me do so” and so I chose one of the coolest looking ones:

I am embarrassed to mentioned to this: But it took me a LONG time to realize I WASN’T DOING ANYTHING. What I was clicking thinking I was attacking while I was looking at buttons and what not was that she was healing a team member.

I wanted to shoot something or at least be somewhat useful, so I switched characters. I tried a few.

Yeah, I was failing BADLY at each of them until I got to:

Is D. Va Korean? She seems Korean. I liked it.

I was FINALLY making some progress and getting some kills and being useful, but then I starting just bombing again. My suit was getting taken out and quickly so I decided I was going to jump to one more character. One that when I first tried it out, I kind of clicked. I understood them and realized that I did the first section well because maybe that was the type of character I should have been playing and given it a chance. I jumped back to:

SOLDIER 76. (That’s right, I said the right name. Heck yes.)

We are back to this guy. And let me say: OMG! It makes so much more sense for me! YES. Finally! This game was FINALLY getting a lot funner because I finally found something I could use decently. D. Va will be my back-up though in case anyone else gets this guy before I do.

I wasn’t the only one surfing through characters trying to figure out one that would finally click. My husband was doing the same thing and had a similar reaction. He wasn’t having as much fun UNTIL he found the right character! His was completely different than mine, but I like that. (I don’t have to worry about my husband taking my character when choosing!)

Turret guy!

It clicked. Finally. And he was voted in a few matches, I actually had a chance during ONE (but we all voted him). So it was cool. We could finally get into the game, have some success and wasn’t dying/being horrid every second! Now, eventually I will try some others, (THERE IS SOMEONE WHO KILLS WITH A BOW AND ARROW HECK YES) but until I actually get decent at this and re-learn how to aim and move and do everything at one time, I will stick with comfort-zone.

Once I realized I would live for a decent time, I could finally look a little bit more at the environment.

Obviously, none of these are my pictures. I haven’t taken any yet. I was focused on trying to not die. But they are good. I liked the style of art it has, easy to navigate, and just a fun feeling overall. So it was highly enjoyable as I watched my character fold into shapes they weren’t supposed to.

This game also was easy to figure out the controls which is quite important. Sometimes I am stuck trying to look at my controller like “What… wait… how do I do that again?” but it wasn’t like that at all this time. And on the right hand side, bottom corner, they tell you which button to hit to use those specials. I am totally happy.

Easy to use. Fun (once you find the right character). Nice graphics. I think I can definitely get into this game.

Who do you like to use? Any tips for this beginner? Have you thought about trying it even?

Games I Am Looking Forward To

Oh dang! Wrong blog y’all!

But for real – I have been away for SUCH a long time and I am so surprised because I keep thinking about all the stuff I wanted to write about on here and the topics I could go over and what I should address-

Yet I never did. Big thing – I was in a big slump gaming-wise for a long while.  It was so bad guys that I could not even get into the game I was looking forward to the MOST: Breath of the Wild!!

I know. Mourning.

But I am slowly getting back into gaming and I want to talk about a few games that I am STOKED about and that just might get me back into the good and righteous place that I should be in.  Let’s START!!

First… Let’s address that game that I am all just fangirly over PLUS has not just my husband excited, but my friend and possibly her boyfriend as well!!!

I remember when it was consistently referred to as #SecretIP on twitter and getting teased by those darn Bioware workers! (They are awesome – you should follow them. And they respond and all that jazz! For real. I just -gah!)

We do know that I am essentially a Bioware Fangirl, right? NO? Now you know.

But that isn’t why I am so EXCITED about this game! (Not the full reason anyway…)
I mean, DID YOU SEE THE GAME PLAY on this game! It looks extremely awesome! Open world, still has missions, places to explore, looks like ‘dungeons’ – Sorry, I couldn’t think of a better name for those – and fantastic squad/group playing? Um, YES.

My husband saw the gameplay before I did and he is all hyped up. He said if it truly is as open-world as it looks, they NAILED it. I was trying to tell him about DA:I and the HUGE maps and how it might as well be and – his response? “I haven’t played it. Wouldn’t know.” Fine, I get that. But I have SUCH HIGH HOPES for this because I think they may have just pulled it off and made something utterly amazing.

My friend when she was describing it was DESTINY-type of feel, and I can see that. I think that is what is drawing some people in. They may be hoping for something similar as Destiny WITHOUT the let down. Seeing as it is Bioware, I am pretty sure that the story and background on this is going to be EPIC and on point. She even said her boyfriend would probably play.

Guys, I already got a squad. Yo. And I don’t mind gaining a few more members as well.

This amazing friend also made this for me….

The next one you should already know about because I have actually mentioned it before:

Now this is OBVIOUSLY going to be “The story changes on your decisions” type of thing. What you do effects EVERYTHING and the path you take will lead to different outcomes. I love those. For real. That is why I love TellTale Games. I am all about having people react to what I chose to do and seeing actual results from it.

I was a fan back when they were showing the detective, and I am STILL a fan with this recent trailer type of deal and even more pumped. I wonder if you are going to have a chance to play multiple characters and see it all tie together (the detective, this gentlemen here who is trying to lead the revolution) and all that. I think they mentioned the Android uprising when showing off the detective so I can totally see it all coming together. (I think that was part of why people were so weary of him because of this, right? I have to rewatch that.)

Now I already know what kind of path I will be. I try to be somewhat peaceful and good person. I know this. My husband was talking about maybe trying something completely new and NOT do that. And I told him this: But then I would regret it. I will play the first play through and do the goody-two-shoes and then the second round I can be evil and mean.

That’s right, I said SECOND PLAYTHROUGH. I can already see this being the type of game you play multiple times because there will probably be SO MANY CHOICES and you just have to see what the other outcomes are!

Did I mention I was stoked? Yeah…. Guuuuuyyyyyysssss.

THIS. THIS GAME. Did I mention how much I LOVED AND ADORED the first one? A friend mentioned a “Ni No Kuni II” and I practically already signed up. I actually don’t have much to say because I haven’t seen anything on it yet. But I already have such high hopes for it because of the amazing experience I had with the first game. I trust them.

Simple. End of story.

But I will be looking up everything later. For real.

Did I mention how I LOVE games that make your choices have consequences? I saw the opening for this and called it. I immediately told my husband “That… that looks like Life is Strange! That… that is the room! The person looks like – That has to be!!!”

And it was.

This game was fantastic and honestly, even though I wanted to do a second run through, I am pretty darn happy with the choices I made so I only played it once. From the looks of it, this may be the prequel but I think we get a lot of the “What led up to the madness of the first game” – which I cannot help but wonder how that will work. They have to have it lead to that and…

I don’t know. All I know is that I am just pumped to see this and hope it was as pulling in as the first one. Whoot.

Come on, you cannot even begin to think I wouldn’t include this, right? I think that seeing as this is supposed to be where it all starts and in this amazing country with so much backstory and history and –

In preparation for this, I will be playing Syndicate. My husband is actually putting his bet on Syndicate being the one that gets me BACK into gaming to prepare for this one. Because this looks amazing. He was talking about the bow and arrow and how it is so much better. I mean, it slowing down while he was aiming after he jumped out of a tree? EPIC. EPIC. And there is just so much potential there! I love this series. It is the truth. They do a fantastic job and I am usually not disappointed. (Okay, there is ONE entry that most people tend to not include for reasons, and I may be doing that as well. ;P)

Because, I remember being kind of “I would play that” about this game, and I probably will. But… I am not nearly as excited as I was about the other games mentioned.

That’s it. That is what might get me back into this gaming groove. I have a New xBox One waiting for me at home (Things happen where the other one left us for a while, so we had to get me a new one) and I will probably start playing OVERWATCH and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate to get back into the feel. Yup.

My husband is putting a lot of faith in you guys.
Me and a friend are going to try to play this together but I need to get better at my first person shooter skills…

Which games are y’all excited about? What do I need to look into? I know there is a TON I have missed out on and I just need… I’m coming Gaming, I swear I’m coming! XD

Where Have I Been? (Pokemon Moon!)

Well, I kind of ruined the surprise with the title, but let’s pretend I didn’t.
Some may have noticed a lack of updates. Well, guess why?

Life decided I needed to pause on gaming for a bit. WHICH STINKS. Which means I haven’t finished Mass Effect 2 yet (I know! I am crying here.) Which also means I haven’t even thought of touching Andromeda.

But there this fun thing that lets you take games on the go… you know, the 3DS? And there was a game that both me and the husband have been wanting to play. I have mentioned it before as well.

Pokemon Sun and Moon! Now, though I don’t game as much at the moment, I have found moments to play! My husband plays Sun while me on the other hand:

That’s right. And it is actually quite fantastic! I am having a lot of fun dressing my person and interacting with the pokemon. Yeah, INTERACT. I get to pet them, comb out scruff, brush out sand, and all this other stuff as well as feed my pokemon! My husband doesn’t do much of that, but I am enjoying it greatly. I try to keep their affection for me high just in case.

There are a few things I noticed that is a mixed bag in regards to how I feel.

(First off, love how WP has made it a lot nicer to edit photos! Right on!)
Notice something here? Look at the attacks. If you are battling a Pokemon you have caught, it actually lists which attacks are effective against it! And Super Effective. And Not Effective. You don’t see the other examples, but at least you can see where they would put it. I mean, it is cool because you did catch that pokemon and that is how your “pokedex” knows, but at the same time…. I feel like I should be like “That is a water pokemon, grass will do the trick!” But even before you chose the pokemon to switch, it lets you see if that pokemon has effective attacks.

But it definitely encourages you to catching them all instead of just the ones you want so you can have the data, but at the same time I feel like I am cheating somehow. Old school has got a hold of me!

This guy talks to you! Your Pokedex tells you things! Well, kind of. I mean it – I don’t see much of the use, but it is a fun factor. Oh, but this next thing I just about jumped for joy when I saw it:

For those who don’t understand – if you played the old games, sometimes if you had to be away from it for a bit, you could forget where you were supposed to go or what you were supposed to do or whatever. I have started games OVER no matter how far I was because I purely had no idea what I was doing. And it was… UGH

This. This has made it amazing! That red flag…. yeah, that right there? It marks WHERE YOU NEED TO GO NEXT. If it has been a while and you are kind of like “I kind of know what is going on, but no idea where to go-” OMG! Hint! Follow the red flag!

Me. For real. I jumped in joy.

AHHH! I am so excited! Because I take time between gaming and just – ahhhhhhhhh. But I do make sure to check all surrounding areas first BEFORE hitting the flag to make sure I don’t miss anything, but this also “warns me” so I know to make sure to do all that. AHHH!

Now, there are a few more things that are different because of no longer having Gyms but rather Trials and all that, but it still has a similar feel because of it to me. Might just be me.

So, that is what I have been up to in regards to games. Slowly working my way through it, training, getting pokemon, filling up my pokedex…

Have you played? What changes did you like? Which did you dislike?

And for those wondering, no, those aren’t my own game screenshots. Sorry. 3DS – I don’t know how people do that. *laughs*

And for those asking about which starter pokemon I chose, let me say I ALWAYS go with water. So I got this fella:

RPG: Learning Game

Yesterday I was talking to a co-worker and she brought up a game that started as a Kick-Start type of deal that I instantly wanted:

a game to help teach Japanese.

She found out because she put money to help for the Katakana version of the game – and I am excited to find out that there is a Hiragana version! I had memorized MOST of them but as time went by, it felt like I had less time to do the “Study” method I was. But if it were a game (especially an RPG….)

What is the game?

Guys, I want this. Someone get it for me! And then get me the other versions too! *laughs* But seriously, this feels like it could be a lot of fun and something I enjoy. I want to get it. I need them to do this with other languages too! (Like… Korean. Spanish is good too.)

I haven’t tried it yet (obviously if I am practically begging for it ;P) but I am excited to know this exists! Anyone try it? Anyone interested? Let me know! (Please??)

Mission: Complete

I know I have not been as active: But I swear there is a reason! I have actually been completing games! And let me tell you how much I loved them!

Remember me talking about this and how I was loving the story line? YES! I completed it! And let me tell you, it was well worth it. The acting in it was superb and the introduction of some of the ‘beloved’ characters was very interesting. How your choices affected things show on the emotions of those around and how easy it can make things.

Usually when I do games, I do not regret my choices. I am generally fine and satisfied. But this game – there are actually a few choices (probably huge choices!) that I am curious if I did right and actually want to go back and redo it. I felt bad about some of the ones I did (mostly in regards to Harvey and Selina) and I have never had a game make me wonder if I did the right thing so much. Anyway, very well worth it! And amazing.

They better make a season 2 DANG IT!

Oh, and there was a twist that I almost didn’t see! I mean, when it happened, it caught me way off guard (but in the back of my mind I was like “I guess that makes sense/I should have realized”). And it was epic and awesome and I loved it!

Hear me TellTale? SEASON 2!! NEED!

Another game I have completed – Well, I think you already know, right?

YES! I finished the first! And guys, it was awesome! The characters are just wow and yeah. There were a few times where I was upset – because of how much I enjoyed it. There was a mission where I had to make a choice and let’s just say that I wasn’t allowed to save everyone. I was upset. To me it was kind of obvious who I was keeping because of ‘romantic’ reasons, but I – the goodbye that was given… I am upset over it. I just – ugh! I felt so bad.

And guys, I am officially a goodie-two-shoes. EVERYTHING I chose was Paragon without me meaning to. Like, I was like “Aw, I chose this option” +25 Paragon. There was only ONE thing I did that gave me a renegade points – and I purely did it because my companions freaked me out and made me think that I would be risking so much more people if I didn’t. But THE CUT SCENE! Omg! I felt so bad!!!!!

They were calling for help, and we turned off communications and I was like “I AM SO SORRY! I TAKE IT BACK! I TAKE IT BACK! GO! GO HELP THEM I DIDN’T REALIZE!!” And people made it sound like I did it to booster humanity – I was trying to save more lives. *cries in corner*

But yes, that decision made me feel bad and got me other points that I had somehow avoided the entire game (Besides the ones they automatically give you to start with).

So now I am working on Mass Effect 2! And… it almost turned into a live tweets of my thoughts during it because  I was like “I NEED TO GET MY REACTION OUT SOMEHOW- without disrupting my family because they are doing stuff too.”

And of course, I asked the coolest person who I knew had played Mass Effect series before advice on how to continue (Falcon509 from FalconReviewsBlog) in regard to if it will kill my storyline.

This is my first playthrough and I do not know everything that will happen. Almost going in blind in a sense with some ideas. But I specifically tried to make sure I didn’t spoil anything.

Oh wait… this got off topic.

The point is:

I am finally getting through my list!

Oh my goodness!

They didn’t have one with the Filipino Flag – plus this just looks all sort of neat

But yes! I am back! And I am actually gaming! Kind of. I know, I know, it was a LONG pause. And seriously, I think my husband was starting to lose hope. But I am back and working on getting gaming BACK into the swing of things!

First off, let me say that I did not go completely cold turkey. I actually played ‘phone games’ while I was on my break. Dragon Ball Z and Disney Emoji Blast were the main at first. I also played Orcs vs Knights. So, there is that.

But what is the main game that got me back on board? That I am DETERMINED to play and finish?

me4This girl!

Commander Shepard! Honestly, I know Andromeda is about to DROP, and I HAVE to finish all the games before that happens!

OH, did I mention that they are all BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE NOW on the xBox One? I can play ALL THREE.

YES. As soon as that hit – as soon as I heard that – I honestly started booting up my currently playthrough of Mass Effect and started working on it. I am trying to get it done (while doing EVERYTHING. I already got the achievement of 75% done or something… like, because of side missions and stuff. And exploring. And yeah…. go me!) and wanted to make it through.

Don’t misunderstand me – the game is AMAZING. I love it! It isn’t a struggle to get through it. I just have to remember my goal:

I will NOT be left in the dust on this! Plus I NEED this until the new Dragon Age.

And I have to admit:

Looks pretty darn neat!! (I will probably do a breakdown of the trailer that I highly enjoyed sometime so you can hear how much it actually brought me in and got me excited. For real.)

Guys…. I have to join back and soon!

So… gaming posts a-comin! Just watch out!

My Gaming Life is on Pause

I have hit a point I never thought I would; I need a break from gaming. I know, a collective gasp from everyone. But right now, I cannot find the motivation to play my normal games and continue with story lines or decide if this person shall live and how it may affect the overall gameplay.

Skyrim has come out today. I had no idea. I cannot even keep up right now because –

I guess I just need a break.

Trust me, this shocks me too.

I have been playing Battlefield One on Xbox One with my husband here and there, but other than that, I have been choosing to watch a show to relax or just listen to music. I just have no idea why. But I will be back! This will not be forever! I know my husband hit a slight slump a month or so ago and he’s back into gaming with no issue. I just take some time I suppose.

But I will be back!…

And I will game again.
